How to approach objections in the workplace

Your opinions are valuable and are encouraged to be shared. However, it doesn't mean you can open the flood gate of criticisms and expect everyone to accept the punches.

Be constructive

There are varying degrees of objections from harmful to helpful.

"That was stupid. Or the equivalent body language.
"Why did you do this?
"How can we work toward making sure this goes smoothly next time?

Reconsider time and place

Is this more about you than the objection? Is there a better time and place for this feedback?

Focus on future behavior

Feedbacks can often refer to past behavior that needs improvement. It can create unnecessary tension in the room and instill a culture of punishment stifling creativity in your team. Instead focus on the future and what we can start doing tomorrow, opening the room to ideas. I think good objections/feedback are given when the recipient can walk away with confidence for a better future.
